Remembering Ramakrishna, Vivekananda & Subhash Chandra

The reason for remembering them (again) is that all three of them were born in the month of Jan or Feb

Gadadhar Shudiram Chattopadhya alias Sri. Ramakrishna Paramhansa was born on 18th February 1836. Narendranath Vishwanath dutta alias Swami Vivekananda was born on 12th January 1863. Netaji Subhashchandra Bose was born on 23rd January 1897

Apart from their birth date falling in Jan or Feb, the other common things between them are: All three of them were great national personalities of India and are remembered till date. Though it does not matter where were they originally from, but all of them were from old 'Bengal Presidency' or were born in 'Bengali' families.

Shri Ramakrishna was well known for his spiritual expertise and he was a Spiritual Guru.
Vivekananda was the chief disciple of the 19th century mystic Ramakrishna & well known for his thoughts on Religion, Vedanta and spirituality. Netaji is well known as an Indian revolutionary who led an Indian National political and military force against Britain and the Western powers.

All three men were great leaders in their own field & it will be interesting to see some of their Sayings & quotes:

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose:

"Give me blood and I shall give you freedom"

Netaji about Vivekananda: “Swamiji harmonized the East and the West, religion and science, past and present.  And that is why he is great.  Our countrymen have gained unprecedented self-respect, self-reliance and self-assertion from his teachings.”

Swami Vivekananda:

"Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success."

"BY the study of different RELIGIONS we find that in essence they are one."

Ramakrishna Paramhansa:

"Do you know my attitude? Books, scriptures, and things like that only point out the way to reach God. After finding the way, what more need is there of books and scriptures? Then comes the time for action."

"Is anything impossible for the grace of God? Suppose you bring a light into a room that has been dark a thousand years; does it remove the darkness little by little? The room is lighted all at once. Intense renunciation is what is needed."

  1. Good start Deo. I am following Swamiji and Thakurji (Ramakrishna) since college days. I was working as volunteer in RK Math, Khar (Mumbai) on weekends and festivals. It was a great experience.
