Kolhapur is a major developing and growing City in the Western Maharashtra. The City is famous for Mahalaxmi Temple, Milk Products, Sugar Factories, and Kolhapuri Misal! This City has historical importance, a cultural heritage and is also developing as a business hub. It is also known for producing Marathi language Movies & Wrestling competitions. The city has an Old and famous University with a beautiful campus and multiple courses to offer.

Kolhapuri Chappal (footwear) is very famous and you should buy one when you visit this City.

Mahalaxmi Temple: The famous temple of Goddess Mahalaxmi (Locally known as Ambabai) attracts thousands of devotees every day and you can go in if you are lucky or have the patience to stand in queue for many hours. Very old temple worth visiting as Architectural marvel also.

Siddhagiri Math (Kaneri Math) : This is also known as Siddhagiri Gramjivan (Village Living) Museum, which is a wax museum and a complete old age village is created with 300+ statues, huts, houses and 80 different scenes. This has an entry fee but it’s worth visiting. This place is only 15 km away from Kolhapur.

Panhala Fort: A fort of king Shivaji Maharaj well known for the dense forest around it and hill station. It is only 20 km away from Kolhapur City. You can see some old buildings and ruins of the fort along with a very large and nice garden.

Staying in Kolhapur:

There are many hotels and lodges in the City but during School vacations (Diwali, Christmas, summer) it can be difficult to get a room if you directly land up in Kolhapur. A planned trip is better with a confirmed hotel booking. On the Most hotels are located on the NH 4 highway (Mumbai- Bangalore highway) which pass through Kolhapur City.
