How to reach Chandigarh?

New Delhi to Chandigarh – 250 km (well connected by Road, Train, and Air)

Chandigarh to Shimla – 121 km

Chandigarh is one of the very few most planned Cities of India. This beautiful City is the joint Capital of Punjab and Haryana states of India and it is a Union Territory. The famous architect Le Corbusier designed the master plan of this City. You will be amazed to see the sectoral division of the City, long and wide roads, great architecture and places of tourist interest. This City can be your starting point for the Himachal Pradesh Circuit. Chandigarh City is extremely hot in summer and extremely cold in winter. The temperature range is −1 °C to 46 °C OR 30 °F to 114 °F.

Places of Tourist Interest in Chandigarh:

Sukhna Lake: This is a large lake in Chandigarh near the Rock Garden. This reservoir is a picnic spot, and you will find hundreds of tourists visiting here daily. The lake has boating facilities, and the best part is hundreds of ducks living in this lake. They always come out of the lake till the inner road, and you can feed them. It’s a nice experience for children and adults also.

Rock Garden: Rock Garden is something you would like to see each time you visit Chandigarh. It is the creation of a man named ‘Nek Chand’.  He secretly created this garden for several years as a sculpture garden & all sculptures are made of scrap material. When the government authorities found out about this place, due to public support, they allowed Nek Chand to continue his work and create a unique rock garden in the World. The material used is broken pieces of stones, ceramics, glass, pipes, electrical parts and all such things collected from scrap material. This place also has several human-madewaterfalls and is a must visit place in your Chandigarh tour. There is an entry fee for this garden, and you need to visit during day time.

Rose Garden: Zakir Hussain Rose Garden is a large botanical garden in Chandigarh spread on 30 acres of land. The garden is a marvel with 50000+ rose plants. Annual Rose Festivalis a major event conducted here. The garden maintenance is with local administration. It is a major tourist spot and famous for photography.

Open Hand Monument: This is a monument designed by the architect Le Corbusier (master architect of Chandigarh). It is a hand of peace, prosperity, and unity.

Elante Mall: You want to do some shopping in Chandigarh? Elante Mall is the second largest shopping mall in North India and third largest in India. The mall has more than a million square feet of retail space.

International Dolls Museum: This museum is in Sector 23 in Chandigarh. It displays a splendid collection of dolls and puppets gathered from all over the world. The museum started in the year 1985 with a partnership between Chandigarh administration & the Rotary Club of Chandigarh. There are about 250 different kinds of dolls collected from countries like Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Russia, and Korea, etc. One more added attraction for children here is the toy train.

‘Dhaba’ is the local name for roadside Punjabi restaurant on a highway, but there are many Dhabas available in multiple sectors of Chandigarh with authentic Punjabi food. Chandigarh is a costly place to live but a major business hub in a Northern part of India.
